Learning through feedback

Cybernetics asks a compact question: how does a system notice the result of its actions and adjust what it does next?

01

Observe a loop

Identify the system, the environment, the action and the signal returned after that action. Feedback is meaningful only relative to a goal or maintained condition.

02

Watch delay and amplification

Late feedback can produce overcorrection. Strong feedback can make a system oscillate. Timing and gain often explain behavior better than a list of components.

03

Include the observer

Measurements shape what a system can notice and what operators can decide. A cybernetic description should make that observation boundary explicit.
